Hi, it's Leyna

Thank you for stopping by my corner of the (internet) world. I hope you enjoy learning a little bit more about who I am as an engineer, a policy maker, an artist, a businesswoman, a foodie, a sister, a daughter, and a person.

If it gets boring, I owe you a restaurant recommendation.

About Me

I am a current sophomore at the University of Michigan, studying Computer Science with a minor in Political Science. My passion is people-first engineering and my long term goal is to create technology that improves social accessibility and to advocate for legislation that mitigates technological risks. This year, I will be working in a lab under UROP where I will be researching/developing the use of AI in 911 calls to assist emergency operators.

I am currently a board member for Michigan AI Safety Initiative Club, and I co-lead the AI Governance reading group/sub-team.  I am also undergoing training to become a DJ on UMich's very own student radio station, WCBN FM!

Outside of school, I love trying new restaurants around Ann Arbor every month (ask me for recommendations!). I enjoy listening to a vast variety of music from all around the world, and I play four different instruments; the guitar, piano, fiddle, and ukulele.

Fun fact: I started a small business over the summer so I could buy more concert tickets like a responsible adult (it was a success!).
